Lovingly inspired, thoughtfully conceived, and innocently crafted, with the aid of a team of international volunteers, there are eight unique, eco-friendly apartments available for short term rental in Carrapateira, all constructed using strictly traditional methods and indigenous Portuguese materials.
"We have built from the heart and we hope that this will make you feel at home. It is simple, natural, close to nature and a traditional way of life".
Some of the apartment features include: eucalyptus and bamboo ceilings, clay and straw walls, stone bathrooms and terracotta floors. Solar power supplies hot water, underfloor heating, light and electricity from the organic farm next door, where you can also buy fresh fruit and vegetables. Outside there is a traditional clay pizza oven, barbecue area and solar cooker, along with a communal dining space.
You can also rent wetsuits and surfboards directly on-site, making it an ideal retreat for a low cost surfing holiday, whether on your own, or with family. Carrapateira is a small fishing village on the Algarve's west coast, situated in close proximity to popular surf beaches like Bordeira and Amado, and with Sagres not far to the south, Lagos to the south east, and Aljezur to the north, you can take your pick of the best surf breaks.
Pick up can be arranged from Faro airport (110km away), or Lagos train station (30km), but it may be best to rent a car, if you want to get out and explore.
