Five rooms in separate buildings around a public courtyard comprise the adorable Bolinas Museum. Each room is themed, some containing histories, others artworks. One space is dedicated to the story of the Coast Miwok American Indians. A map of their territory shows the original place-names of western Marin. The museum is open Fridays 1-5 and weekends 12-5. Admission is free. Events and openings are held regularly.

Next door, between the Coast Café and Bolinas Super Market, another piece of local history is on display: the Lady of Bolinas Shrine. This small dedicated area has a mosaic tiled floor and wood frame shelter to protect the shrine. Portraits of deceased loved-ones are arranged on a symmetrical pair of shelves. The centerpiece is a ceramic sculpture of a water spirit with a mirror mosaic recess.
