Make Westing is an awesome bar in Oakland's thriving Uptown neighborhood, located very close to the Fox Theater. For added fun, there are two bocce lanes that are free to use on a first come first serve basis, perfect for a group of friends or a first date. I love the $6 happy hour cocktails; my friend and I could not get enough of the Garden Gimlet (gin, cucumber, basil, lime), and I found myself ordering basket after basket of their Habanero & Cilantro Infused Popcorn, almost inhaling it. Their Roasted Chicken Sandwich was hearty, moist and made me smile. They also have things in jars, like Shaved Asparagus & Preserved Lemon Mascarpone and Duck Liver Mousse served with warm bread.
The clientele is a diversity dream come true: dorks, nerds, hipsters, city workers, suits, high BMI people, the beautiful ones, GBLT, artists, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s -- in all the shades people come in and of course, speaking different languages as well. As for their interior, I'll quote their website: Wood, iron, and slate make up the décor that resonates with the industrial heritage of our city.
Hours: Seven days a week, 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Daily Happy Hour: 4 p.m. - 6 p.m ($3 draft beers, $4 wine, $6 cocktail specials)
